Color converter

What is the color converter?

The color converter translates a color between the HEX, HEXA, RGB, RGBA, HSL and HSLA formats, and shows a preview swatch of each value. Enter a color in any of these formats, for example #ef2b4b, rgb(239, 43, 75) or hsl(350, 86%, 55%).

Designers and developers switch between color formats all the time: HEX in design tools, RGBA for transparency in CSS, HSL to create lighter or darker shades of a brand color.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between HEX and HEXA?

HEXA adds two more digits for the alpha channel (opacity), for example #ff000080 is red at 50% opacity.

When should I use HSL?

HSL makes it easy to adjust lightness and saturation, which is perfect for building color palettes.

Are the conversions exact?

RGB and HEX are exact. HSL values are rounded to whole numbers, which can shift the color by one unit.

Does it support named colors like red?

Use the HEX, RGB or HSL value. The word transparent is also supported.
